At its core is the idea that the energy transition requires more than technical solutions but sound business cases, and that market growth can be accelerated through information and best practice exchange. In practice, EEIP network users are coming from organisations of all sizes (from SMEs to multinationals), all sectors (e.g. users, technology and services providers, finance, IT, consultancies, cities, policy) and covering the entire value chain, in other words supply and demand side.

Launched at the European Commission in April 2011, EEIP is set up as a not-for-profit organisation in order to facilitate open and inclusive dialogue within market participants and between market participants and EU policymakers. EEIP is financing its operations through platform services such as content marketing or externally funded projects.

Set-up as a decentralized platform, everybody can connect to EEIP wherever and however they want: from website to social media, from newsletter to magazines, from conferences to webinars. Currently (July 2019), EEIP has 140.000 network users.
