Høje-Taastrup Municipality is situated 20 km west of Copenhagen, has good infrastructure as highways and railways and a population of around 54,000. It is a large commuter municipality, with many large companies within IT and service, knowledge-intensive, logistics and transport, and regional retail trading.

The municipality has grown a lot in both population and working places over the last 8 years and is still growing with new city development areas for housing and new established companies.

The City Council has 21 democratically elected members, including the Mayor.

Sustainability and Climate Change management has been on the political agenda in many years, and the municipality has been a complaint member of the Global Covenant of Mayors since 2016.

Høje-Taastrup Municipality has been operating with strategic energy and climate planning, including development and implementation of specific initiatives in more than a decade. During the last ten years the CO2-emissions have been reduced with almost 30 %, mainly as a result of green transition on electricity and heating and during the last years with more and more focus on green transition of the transport area.
