Company overview
The Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT, established in 1969, is a pioneer university in the combination of Technology and Business. LUT is the first Finnish entrepreneurial university to meet the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)’s criteria. Its international community is composed of approximately 6500 students and academic experts engaged in scientific research and education. LUT’s key focus is on tackling highly demanding societal issues, such as the mitigation of climate change and the continuous availability of clean water and energy. Among LUT’s faculties in its two campuses in Lappeenranta and Lahti, there’s the LUT School of Energy Systems (LES). LES is the largest university-level energy research and education community in Finland, where more than 300 experts work every day in energy-related research and teaching, 80 of which have a Ph.D. In average, 185 Masters of Science in Technology and 30 doctors graduate every year. Research at LES is profiled with a strong systems-based nature, involving the entire energy value chain from fuels/resources, through generation/transmission/distribution and to the use of energy, including technologies, devices, market design, business models, policies, resource efficiency and sustainability. Some core research areas at LES include Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Sustainability Science and Mechanical Engineering. One of the major strengths of LES is a wide-ranging understanding of energy systems, a result of its capacity to engage in multidisciplinary research.
