Perceived wisdom is that electrification is a crucial driver of industrial competitiveness by offering stable energy prices and reducing reliance on volatile, imported fossil fuels. Yet, is this an over-simplication of their relationship, especially in hard-to-abate sectors? What other energy carriers could support competitiveness, while still keeping our net-zero goals on track. How could the electricity and gas sectors work in concert?
