Pierre Dechamps

Pierre Dechamps is a Senior Advisor to the FTI Brussels office and has extended experience in EU energy and climate policies, for which he used to responsible during his time with the European Commission.  The Clean Industrial Deal broadens the sustainability perspective and embraces sustainable prosperity, industry competitiveness and the need for energy independence. Utilising his broad understanding of the Brussels political landscape, Pierre advises his clients in all matters related to EU energy, climate, environmental and industry competitiveness policies, with a special emphasis on carbon markets, the Emissions Trading System, the Carbon Border Adjustment Measure and the deployment of renewables energies and renewable fuels. After starting his career as a university lecturer, Pierre joined the power generation industry for a few years, before serving the European Commission for over 21 years, with responsibilities in energy and climate, including 7 years from 2008 to 2015 when Pierre was the Adviser to the Commission President on energy, climate and the environment. Pierre has been on leave from the Commission since 2019. He has several teaching commitments with higher education establishments throughout Europe on energy, climate and environment matters, notably with Cranfield University, with Ecole des Mines de Paris, the IFP School, SciencesPo Paris and with the Vistula University of Warsaw. Combining his expertise and teaching abilities, Pierre can put complex technical regulations and policies in terms understandable by broader stakeholder groups.
