BLOW

Offshore wind is a competitive, clean and scalable renewable energy source. Currently, offshore wind farms rest on bottom-fixed foundations and are mainly deployed in shallow waters, at depths less than 50 m. The EU-funded BLOW project will design floating turbines allowing offshore wind development in the Black Sea, where the water is too deep for bottom-fixed solutions. BLOW will develop a 5-MW demonstrator, paving the way to industrial mass production of floating offshore wind farms. The disruptive, cost-efficient unit will be optimised for areas with low and high wind speeds.
