C2FUEL
The EU-funded C2FUEL project plans to develop energy-efficient, economically competitive and environmentally friendly CO2 conversion technologies. The project concept will be demonstrated at France’s Port of Dunkirk in DK6 (a natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant) and ArcelorMittal’s steel factory. The CO2 present in the blast furnace gas will be selectively removed and combined with green hydrogen generated by electrolysis to produce two promising energy carriers. The process should allow reuse of CO2 emitted from the steel-making factory and improve the operational and environmental performance of the DK6 combined cycle power plant. C2FUEL’s unique circular approach could help mitigate up to 2.4 Mt of CO2 per year.
