CEM-WAVE

The European Green Deal policy initiatives support research on and innovation in technologies allowing extensive exploitation of renewable energy. However, due to the alterability of renewable energy sources, new materials are needed to resist higher temperatures and corrosive environments in energy-intensive industries. Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) present excellent thermo-mechanical properties but have high production costs. The EU-funded CEM-WAVE project proposes an innovative CMC production process based on microwave-assisted chemical vapour infiltration technologies. This process will considerably reduce processing costs, making CMCs accessible for process industries in energy-intensive sectors. The project will rely on artificial intelligence modelling research and develop advanced joining and coating technologies to produce complex-shaped components with high-temperature corrosion resistance.
