As digital technologies advance and societies embrace digitalisation, the consumer interaction with the digital systems is required to be faster, more efficient and reliable. Digital infrastructure will therefore grow in urban areas to support future developments and this will in turn increase the demand on electrical grids within cities. This evolution will create a challenge for future developments of urban digital infrastructure. The EU-funded E2P2 project will work to overcome this challenge and conceive and create an alternative commercial scale prime power source that employs fuel cell technologies for on-site power generation. The target is for the E2P2 solution to be energy efficient and quiet with a reduced environmental impact and negligible demand on the electrical grid.
