Green Intelligent Affordable New Transport Solutions.

The GIANTS project develops a next-generation EV platform tailored to both advanced and emerging markets. Unlike conventional skateboard architectures in the automotive industry, GIANTS introduces a modular, scalable, and mission-specific design to support a wide variety of light electric vehicles (L5, L6, and L7 categories).

Central to the platform are several technological innovations: a lightweight portable 48V swappable battery system, scalable electric drivetrains, standardized vehicle control units, and integrated solar roof panels. A dedicated configuration tool will enable third parties to design and manufacture vehicles based on the platform, ensuring flexibility and rapid market uptake. By combining modularity and interoperability, GIANTS also supports circular economy approaches, enabling refurbishment, reuse, and recycling throughout the vehicle life cycle.

Demonstration activities will validate the technology in five use cases across Europe, Africa, and Asia, covering both freight and passenger applications. These living labs will test 13 vehicles, ensuring that technical specifications meet real-world user demands while showcasing cost efficiency, robustness, and adaptability. The project also evaluates manufacturability, business viability, and environmental benefits, ensuring that the outcomes align with climate neutrality goals.

GIANTS aims to reduce the total cost of ownership for electric vehicles while offering climate-neutral mobility solutions that are user-friendly and energy-efficient. By addressing the needs of urban areas with high-density traffic and growing delivery demands, the project contributes to improved air quality and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

With a consortium of 23 partners, including major OEMs, SMEs, research institutions, and city networks, GIANTS combines industrial know-how with societal perspectives. This comprehensive approach ensures the solutions are not only technologically advanced but also aligned with urban planning, policy frameworks, and user acceptance.

The project’s impact extends beyond Europe: replication in emerging markets such as the Philippines, Kenya, and India is planned, leveraging local living labs to adapt solutions to regional needs. By 2028, the GIANTS platform is expected to enable sales of 1.5 million vehicles annually, driving EU leadership in sustainable mobility worldwide.
