HEMOS

Worldwide shipping is a concern for environmentalists. As it is dependent on fossil fuels, it accounts for nearly 3 % of greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, decarbonisation of the sector is a priority. In this context, the EU-funded HEMOS project will work on decarbonising the EU’s fleet by improving the heat energy system of ships. Specifically, it will optimise heat flow topology with a dynamic calculation model, in addition to including latest advancements in heat-energised technologies. The project will validate the calculation model with a real-life onboard prototype. The aim is to create an innovative approach towards the design of new heat energy systems on ships. The main target is to reach a 14 % efficiency increase to reduce emissions.
