MAREWIND
Offshore wind energy generators and tidal power generators are key to reaching climate goals and CO2 reduction levels. However, there is a need to improve the operational performance of next-generation offshore wind generators and tidal stream power generators. The EU-funded MAREWIND project will address durability and maintenance of materials in offshore structures to guard against failures, malfunctioning and loss of efficiency in energy generation. Specifically, it will enhance corrosion protection systems and durability (both with new coatings in metals and with new concrete materials), design durable antifouling solutions without using biocides, and develop erosion protection and mechanical reinforcement in wind blades. MAREWIND will also develop predictive modelling and monitoring as well as increase recyclability.
