OYSTER
The potential of low-cost hydrogen production is only possible if compact electrolysis systems are developed that can operate efficiently under harsh offshore conditions while requiring minimal maintenance and still meet performance targets. The EU-funded OYSTER project will bring together a leading polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyser manufacturer, an offshore wind developer, and a wind turbine manufacturer to develop and test in a shoreside pilot trial a MW-scale electrolyser that is modified for operating under marine conditions. Results will support studies and design for full-scale systems, including innovations for improving efficiency and reducing costs, thus paving the way for the development of a world-leading commercial offshore hydrogen production industry.
