PASTELS
Nuclear power can form an important component of the future energy landscape. Nuclear power plants (NPPs) have an excellent safety record, with few accidents, and Europe is dedicated to taking innovative actions to enhance the safety of its NPPs to support further adoption and increase positive impact. Within this context, the EU-funded PASTELS project is working on improving numerical tools to accurately simulate some of the most promising safety systems - the so-called passive systems - rapidly being adopted by non-European NPPs. These tools will support guidelines and provide a roadmap to the adoption and licensing of these technologies in future European NPPs.
