SafeG
Gas-cooled fast reactors (GFRs) are a promising advanced nuclear reactor technology. They are versatile and make efficient and sustainable electricity and industrial heat production possible. To advance GFR research and development in Europe, the EU-funded SafeG project aims to connect developers of the ALLEGRO reactor with experts in GFRs and high-temperature reactors. The project intends to enhance the safety of the ALLEGRO demonstrator and review material and technology options. It further aims to study various fuel cycles and their suitability in terms of safety and proliferation resistance, with a view to adapting GFR safety to meet changing global needs in electricity production. The project will help to promote GFR safety in Europe.
