Waste2H2
Hydrogen can be produced from fossil fuels and renewable energy sources. It can also be produced from waste biomass through thermal gasification, followed by the cleaning and purification of the syngas produced. The EU-funded Waste2H2 project therefore aims to focus its research on hydrogen as a sustainable energy vector and an example of waste valorisation in a circular economy. To this end, it will strengthen the scientific and technological capacity of Portugal’s Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre in thermal gasification syngas cleaning and purification for hydrogen production. It will further enhance the staff’s research profile by twinning with three leading European research institutions. This work could help decarbonise society and promote a circular economy while also enhancing Portugal’s position in applied scientific research in this field.
