Upgrade of energy infrastructure in the port of Igoumenitsa

The project concerns the construction and deployment of shore-side electricity (SSE) infrastructure for three berthing positions serving freight and passenger vessels, as well as the preparation of studies and tender documentation for an additional SSE position dedicated to cruise vessels. The project will be implemented in the Core maritime port of Igoumenitsa, located in north-western Greece and forming part of the Orient/East-Med Core Network Corridor. Its overarching objective is to support the transformation of the Port of Igoumenitsa into a greener and more technologically advanced hub. Specifically, the project aims to enable emission-free maritime operations and enhance overall port performance through the upgrading and optimization of the port’s energy network, improving both efficiency and service quality while safeguarding the port’s economic and environmental sustainability. By increasing the port’s energy efficiency and facilitating the electrification of vessels at berth, the project will contribute to the decarbonization of the transport system, fully aligning with the European Green Deal and the EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. “ALFION-INFRA” builds upon and represents the continuation of the “ALFION” (2019-EL-TM-0227-S) project, which was also co-funded under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The previous project successfully delivered the required technical, environmental, and financial studies, as well as tender documentation, forming the essential groundwork for the implementation phase now undertaken through ALFION-INFRA.
