Cost-effective and replicable Renewable Energy Sources integrated electrified heating and cooling systems for improved energy efficiency and demand response.

The SEEDS project aims to boost the electrification of thermal systems in buildings through an integrated approach leveraging energy efficient renovation and smartification of HVAC systems. The SEEDS project solutions aim to reduce the thermal energy demand of buildings and enable the deployment of energy flexibility to increase the RES share (in particular, locally produced) thereby enhancing grid stability in a cost-effective way and with low life cycle environmental impact.

SEEDS conducts real-life demonstrations of its solutions in six pilot sites, including one replication site. Five of these sites involve renovations: two small clusters of heritage terraced houses, one multifamily apartment, one dormitory, and one cluster of five gas stations. The sixth site is a new construction, consisting of a hotel and office building.

These pilot sites are located in Denmark (CDK), Belgium (SWECO), Hungary (EMI), Slovenia (PETROL), and Greece (D.U.T.H.). They provide real-world settings across four distinct climate zones and European construction markets.
Additionally, three of the participating countries (Hungary, Slovenia, and Greece) are highly dependent on Russian fossil fuel supplies.
