SRI-ENACT

Long-term strategies for enhancing smartness in building construction and renovation rely on effective measures to assess buildings' smart readiness. In this context, the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) is introduced in the revised EPBD to establish a standardized methodology for evaluating the smart readiness of buildings. However, the implementation and adoption of the SRI across EU countries present several challenges, including the need for customization to national contexts, limited SRI expertise among energy auditors, issues with scalability and reliability in large-scale deployments, low stakeholder engagement across EU countries, and obstacles in informed decision-making for energy smartness upgrades.

SRI-ENACT addresses these challenges with a comprehensive solution to facilitate SRI adoption in Europe. The project engages stakeholders in the co-creation of nationally tailored SRI implementations and develops the SRI-ENACT toolkit, which includes SRI assessment and decision-support tools to promote informed decision-making for smartness upgrades. Additionally, the project delivers a training and certification program for prospective SRI auditors, equipping them with the necessary skills to conduct assessments effectively.

The SRI-ENACT solution is implemented in 8 EU countries—Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Latvia, Romania, and Spain—where 120 SRI auditors conduct assessments on 1,200 buildings. These large-scale pilots provide valuable evidence on the effectiveness of SRI implementation, enabling the identification of best practices, the development of financing schemes for SRI improvement, and the formulation of policy recommendations to support the replication and broader adoption of the SRI-ENACT tools and services across Europe.
