Schneider Electric's Frederic Godemel says the pace of electrification is not fast enough

For Schneider Electric’s executive vice president of power systems and services, using electrification to drive decarbonisation will be key.

We need to electrify. We are not electrifying fast enough. For Frederic Godemel, these two statements continue to ring true. And although this might be the case, for Schneider Electric’s executive vice president of power systems and services, there is still hope to get things on track.

Electrification is key to decarbonisation and solving the sustainability and energy security crises that we are currently facing, says Godemel.

To illustrate the potential offered by electrification, Godemel references, among others, the use case of electrifying buildings and industry, two key areas that need to be decarbonised.

“Buildings can be 100% electrified. Today we don’t see any reason to use another source of fuel in buildings – they can be electrified across all processes.

"On [the topic of] industry, we know that today 20% of the processes are electrified. We think we can achieve 50% with the technology that we have today.

“If you look at those two figures in addition to the massive production of renewables, partially local and otherwise global, then you can see a significant contribution to energy security and decarbonisation.

"We know what we have to do."
