Hydrogen-to-homes project in Scotland to supply green hydrogen generated by windpower.
Altrad Babcock has been chosen by gas distribution company SGN to deliver H100 Fife, believed to be the world’s first green hydrogen-to-homes gas network.
The project in Scotland will supply green hydrogen generated by windpower for up to 300 homes.
Altrad Babcock’s David Cornforth said the project was “first of a kind and will demonstrate the practicality of bringing green hydrogen gas to domestic customers for the first time, supporting evidence for future low carbon policy decisions and paving a clear path for similar applications in the future”.

H100 Fife is located in Levenmouth on the east coast of Fife. Up to 300 homes can choose to opt-in to have their homes supplied with hydrogen through a new distribution network in 2024, providing zero-carbon fuel for heating and cooking.
Altrad says it will be the first 100% green hydrogen-to-homes zero carbon network in the world and is intended to demonstrate the potential for the entire British gas network to deliver hydrogen.
SGN chief executive Mark Wild said: “We’re thrilled to have overcome the global commercial and procurement challenges facing many construction projects, and can now get on with building our production and storage site so we can deliver green hydrogen into homes for the first time.”
