The first of Hinkley Point C’s eight 520-tonne steam generators was delivered safely to the construction site after arriving by sea and road.
The 25m long steam generators will take heat from the nuclear reactors to create steam to power the world’s largest turbines.
The generator arrived at Combwich Wharf from Avonmouth via the River Parrett in Somerset. It travelled on Osprey’s flat-top barge Aurora Maya, which has a capacity of 1,554 tonnes.
After arriving at Combwich Wharf, the generator travelled the final four miles by road.

Its arrival is in time for the fit-out of the new power station, which will see the first nuclear reactor installed later this year.
Four generators will be placed in each reactor building, operating at an average temperature of 295°C for at least 60 years. The new power plant will be capable of generating up to 3,260MW
GE Steam Power is supplying the two conventional power islands for Hinkley Point C, which will include the Arabelle steam turbine generator (capable of producing 1770MW each).
