Giles Dickson has announced his intention to step down as CEO of WindEurope after 10 years to become a school teacher.

According to Dickson in a LinkedIn post: "The spirit and dedication of the wind industry is an inspiration. I hope I can pass it on to the schoolchildren of England."

Dickson aims to return to the UK, his home country, when he steps down from his role as CEO, scheduled for the second half of 2025.

The Board of directors of WindEurope has initiated the process of finding his successor and has established a nomination committee with participation of select board members to this end.

In a statement, WindEurope said Dickson had been instrumental in the expansion of wind energy in Europe, as well as the region's ambitious renewable energy plans.

Henrik Andersen, chair of WindEurope’s Board of Directors, commented in a statement: “On behalf of everyone in the Board of Directors, both past and present, I want to thank Giles for his tremendous contribution to not only WindEurope, but also the expansion of wind across Europe. It is a testament to Giles’ passion for and dedication to the energy transition that he will now help ensure a smooth succession and leave a stronger WindEurope than when he arrived.

Andersen added that with wind power playing such a critical role in ensuring Europe's competitiveness, he is pleased to have a champion like Dickson educating future generations.

Giles Dickson, outgoing CEO of WindEurope, added: “I’m incredibly proud of the progress wind energy has made in Europe in the past 10 years. I thank everyone at WindEurope for their engagement and support and the many people who have helped take wind energy forward during my tenure. Having spent most of my working life outside the UK, I look forward to going home and trying to put something back into the society I came from. But wind is a fantastic industry that it is a privilege to serve”.

In March this year, the Board of WindEurope elected Henrik Andersen, CEO of Vestas, as the new Chair and Rasmus Errboe, the CEO of Ørsted, as Vice-Chair of the Board. They will fulfil their roles for a period of 18 months.
