Global PV tech leader LONGi enters energy storage market

The world’s largest manufacturer of silicon wafers for solar panels wants to evolve into an integrated ‘solar-storage-hydrogen’ energy solutions provider.

LONGi, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of monocrystalline silicon wafers and a major producer of solar modules, has unveiled its energy storage strategy in London, announcing its entry into the storage sector.

Founded in 2000, the China-based PV major is looking to create an integrated offering and strategy via a collaboration with energy storage safety expert PotisEdge, a new storage solution, and a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Europe.

With the strategy, the company launched its LONGi Energy Storage One-Stop Solution, which will be deployed first in key markets such as the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain, helping utilities and power companies build smarter and more efficient clean energy systems. 

Currently, LONGi possesses technologies in PV and hydrogen energy – with its HIBC cell efficiency reaching 27.81% and its ALK electrolyser capacity ranking first globally. 

This expansion into energy storage signifies the enhancement of LONGi's strategic layout, which it says forms a closed-loop across the entire ‘Solar-Storage-Hydrogen’ value chain.

Solar is the creator of clean energy, energy storage is the stabiliser of the power system, and hydrogen is the regulator that balances it all.

This approach, which they call the ‘Stability Triangle strategy’, was detailed by Dennis She in London. Said the company’s Vice President: 

“Solar is the creator of clean energy, energy storage is the stabiliser of the power system, and hydrogen is the regulator that balances it all.

"The synergy of these three will build a truly widespread, highly resilient, and affordable zero-carbon energy system."

Strategy, safety and the European market

On the collaboration, LONGi cites PotisEdge’s significant safety record.

PotisEdge’s fully self-developed '5S' technology, supported by its BMS and iCCS designs, has enabled a decade-long safety record of 'zero thermal runaway' incidents across cumulative deployments exceeding 12GWh in energy storage and power battery systems. This will provide technical support for LONGi's energy storage solutions.

Said She: "The current development stage of the energy storage industry is very similar to the early days of solar — confidence-driven rapid growth, but also bringing disorderly competition. 

“The future dimension of competition in energy storage has evolved from 'having the technology' to 'value reliability.'

"Safety, reliability, and stability are the yardsticks for measuring energy storage solutions, and are also the cornerstone for winning the long-term trust of the market and customers."

LONGi’s centre of excellence (CoE), the Solar-Storage Technology Innovation Center, marks its first CoE in Europe. PotisEdge will play a central role in the centre, which will provide full-lifecycle service, from project consulting, technical training to smart O&M, ensuring localised, rapid-response capabilities for customers, says PotisEdge in a release.

Said LONGi's She: "Europe's urgent need for energy transition and its mature market mechanisms provide an ideal platform for practising integrated 'Solar-Storage-Hydrogen' solutions.” 

PotisEdge will also collaborate with LONGi to drive more deployment of solar-storage integrated systems in the European market, providing technical support. Moving forward, both companies will continue to expand into key global markets, exploring viable pathways for solar-storage-hydrogen integration and scaling multi-energy synergy applications.

The announcement from LONGi and PotisEdge comes a week after Europe’s storage association, Energy Storage Europe, announced that the continent is set to hit 100GW of energy storage capacity, with more than 115% growth expected by 2030.

The EU, UK, Norway, and Switzerland together are expected to reach this capacity later this month, according to their analysis coordinated alongside LCP Delta, which was launched at the Enlit Europe conference.

This milestone represents enough capacity to meet the peak electricity demand of Germany and the Netherlands. 

Since 2020, energy storage in Europe has experienced rapid growth, with each technology advancing at its own pace. Pumped-hydro storage (PHS) holds the largest share of installed capacity, at 50.6GW, including 500MW added this year in Belgium and Austria. Battery storage has expanded more rapidly, with over 4GW of new utility-scale capacity in 2025 alone.
