Building solutions firm Holcim UK has installed 208 solar panels at its Moorcroft site in Plymouth, UK, to power part of the plant's operations.
The site, which is home to a limestone quarry, asphalt and readymix plants, is the latest location for a renewables rollout, and forms part of the company's sustainability drive.
The panels, installed on the roofs of workshops at the site, will be able to generate more than 76,000KWh of power per year, 2% of the site’s annual power needs. It will also save 15.9 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
The solar installation was carried out by Aniron and managed by Regenerco.

Joanna Walker, Energy manager at Holcim UK, commented in a statement: “Our initial focus is on identifying suitable locations for roof mounted solar across our UK sites.
“Moorcroft is a welcome addition to the scheme we have already successfully implemented and helps us continue to roll-out renewable energy sources as part of our Net Zero Strategy, helping us on our journey to zero emissions.
“We have further schemes in the pipeline for the rest of the year including both rooftop and ground mounted initiatives,” concluded Walker.
In March this year, Aggregate Industries rebranded to Holcim UK as part of a strategic shift to drive growth, sustainability and circularity.
The company's goal is to achieve zero emissions before 2050 and is working on several key focuses areas to reach this, including renewable energy, carbon capture, energy efficiency and low-carbon fuels.
Over the last 12 months Holcim UK has installed solar panels at its Hulland Ward, Bardon Hill and Callow sites.
