Mitsubishi to upgrade steam turbines at Taiwan waste-to-energy plant

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will renovate the steam turbine generators at the Renwu Refuse Incineration Plant in Kaohsiung| Taiwan.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will renovate the steam turbines at the Renwu Refuse Incineration Plant, a waste incineration facility in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The renovation contract aims to enhance the output of the original generators supplied by MHI in 1998 and was concluded with waste disposal company Onyx Ta-Ho Environmental Services.

Onyx Ta-Ho is in charge of O&M of the Renwu Refuse Incineration Plant and is now conducting improvement work on core equipment.

The conclusion of renovation work and the start of operations are scheduled for mid-2024.

The scope of the project has been kept to a minimum, with components carefully selected for upgrade in order to make the best possible use of the existing equipment and improve efficiency.

According to MHI, by optimising the design of the turbine casing and internal equipment based on the changes in operating conditions since the plant was built, the upgrade will enhance power generation output markedly.

This renovation project for core facilities will allow more efficient use of the heat generated from waste incineration and is expected to contribute to the energy efficiency and CO2 reductions of the plant.

Onyx Ta-Ho was established in 1992 as a joint venture between the French company Veolia, a major general environmental services firm, and Taiwan Cement Corporation.
