Global Wind Projects, a UK-based provider of onshore wind turbine crane and installation services, has started work on the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm.
It's the firm's first standalone offshore wind contract, which was granted by NnG contractor Siemens Gamesa. The scope of work includes provision of cranes, installation personnel and ground transport for the pre-assembly of 54 offshore wind turbine towers.
NnG, a joint development by EDF Renewables and Irish energy company ESB, will be located 15.5km off the Fife coast and covers an area of approximately 105 km².
The towers for the NnG wind farm will be pre-assembled by Siemens Gamesa at the Port of Dundee, the assembly and marshalling facility for the 450MW wind farm.

From there, the towers will be transported to the wind farm site.
Global Wind Projects have deployed 90 personnel to the port to complete the work scope.
Speaking about the contract, Matthias Haag, project director for NnG, commented: “This is a critical role at a very important stage in the delivery of the NnG wind farm and we welcome Global Wind Projects to the team.”
Construction of the NnG wind farm started onshore in November 2019 while work offshore began in August 2020. Full commissioning is expected in 2023.
Global Wind Projects was created in April 2021 by Global Port Services - part of the Inverness and Aberdeen-based energy sector service group.
