Turboden to deliver 13MW ORC plant to Riyadh Cement Company

Italian Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems specialist Turboden has been selected to supply a 13MWe power plant to the Riyadh Cement Company.

According to Turboden, the project represents a milestone for Saudi Arabia's decarbonisation journey as the first-ever ORC plant to be installed within the Kingdom.

The plant will harness waste heat from clinker coolers and pre-heaters of the cement plant (2 kilns of 5,000 tons/day each). The plant will be automated and unmanned to lower OPEX and will feature water-free operation to minimise water consumption.

Andrea La Gioia, general manager of Turboden commented in a statement: "With around 460 ORC plants in 52 countries, 50 in waste heat recovery application, our ORC technology represents a game-changer in the global energy landscape, and we are proud to support the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its transition towards cleaner, more sustainable energy sources."

Sinoma Energy Conservation will serve as the project EPC.

The project will support Riyadh Cement Company's strategic decarbonisation goals and is also aligned with the nation's Vision 2030 agenda.
