Vattenfall is currently working on two different district heating developments in London, which will benefit from Gheorghiu-Currie's experience.
At Brent Cross, Vattenfall is working in partnership with developer Related Argent to design and construct a district heating network for 6,700 new homes and three million square feet of commercial space.
In southeast London, Vattenfall is also working in partnership with Cory to develop the Riverside Heat Network that will capture waste heat for use by 21,000 existing buildings and homes in the first two phases.
Jenny Curtis, managing director at Vattenfall Heat UK commented: "I am delighted to announce Alina Gheorghiu-Currie as our Director for London at Vattenfall Heat UK. This is a proud and exciting moment as we expand a dedicated team to serve London.”
Low carbon district heating captures the huge volume of unused heat present in urban areas and uses it to warm offices and homes, without the need to burn more fossil fuels.
One third of UK emissions come from heating, and district heating networks are an essential means of decarbonising heating and hot water on a city scale.
