Vestas' Samuel Byrne joins Equinor Renewables Americas

Byrne joins Equinor from Vestas Wind Systems in Asia-Pacific where he served as vice president of operations & maintenance.

Energy company Equinor has appointed Samuel Byrne as vice president of operations at Equinor Renewables Americas.

Byrne joins the Equinor team from Vestas Wind Systems in Asia-Pacific where he served as vice president responsible for operations & maintenance.

His responsibilities covered 13 countries and approximately 15GW of wind farms either in operations or being commissioned, renewables experience that will be used to lead and oversee Equinor’s US offshore wind operations and maintenance activities.

“His extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, coupled with his proven track record in managing large-scale projects, will be invaluable as we continue to build and expand Equinor’s renewable energy portfolio in the US I look forward to drawing on Sam’s long track record of developing safe and efficient renewable energy projects as we move closer to construction of Empire Wind and Beacon Wind.”

Byrne also worked previously for McKinsey & Co., where he primarily focused on the energy sector in the US, Latin America, and Europe.

Currently, Equinor Renewables Americas has 3.3GW of offshore wind capacity under development.

Through a partnership with bp, Equinor will be developing the Empire Wind and Beacon Wind projects. Furthermore, the company won a 2GW lease for the Morro Bay floating wind project off the California coast.

Equinor has been present in the US since 1987 when operations began in the Gulf of Mexico. Since then the company has expanded it's projects to include unconventional resources and renewable energy projects.
