Why nuclear is the 'low-cost clean energy Europe really needs'
As Europe strives for energy security, while managing the cost of living crisis, we are seeing increasing support and even demand for nuclear energy.
At a time when Europe is striving for greater energy security, while managing the impact of a cost of living crisis, we are seeing an unprecedented level of support and even demand for nuclear energy.
According to Kirsty Gogan, chief executive and co-founder of Terrapraxis, as Europe has increasingly weaned itself from Russian gas, positive sentiment towards nuclear has grown.
"Having that low-cost, reliable, clean energy is really what Europe needs right now," said Gogan, and existing nuclear plants can offer low operating costs with high reliability.
Gogan highlights that 82% of Germany's population is looking for the prolonged operation of nuclear plants. "It would have been unthinkable a year ago but we are seeing that trend across many countries across Europe."

During an exclusive interview at Enlit Europe 2022 in Frankfurt, Gogan talked to Pamela Largue about why nuclear power will play a critical role in our energy mix as we ramp up climate action and why the public and policymakers are beginning to look upon the fuel source more favourably.
Gogan also highlighted how Russia knitted itself into the global nuclear supply ecosystem and what Europe and the US need to do to secure domestic fuel supplies to support sector growth.
