Ansaldo Energia has successfully completed the upgrade at ENGIE's Leinì 380MW combined cycle power plant in Turin, Italy.

The upgrade involved the replacement of the existing gas turbine with a new AE94.3A, the replacement of the generator, and the upgrade of all related auxiliary systems.

Started in April 2024, the upgrade will improve the efficiency and power of the plant, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

According to Ansaldo Energia, initial tests have demonstrated that the targets in terms of both efficiency and reduction of CO and NOX emissions have been fully met.

Stefano Gianatti, executive vice president Thermal New Units of Ansaldo Energia, commented in a statement: “We are pleased to have completed the work ahead of schedule and in full compliance with the project specifications, ensuring that the power plant is back in operation to meet the demand of the national electricity grid."

There are more than 110 AE94.3A gas turbine units in operation worldwide with more than 5 million cumulative operating hours.

The AE94.3A's operational flexibility and control system, states Ansaldo Energia, make it suitable for responding to demand peaks from the electricity grid, as well as for supplying thermal energy for district heating, as in the case of the Leinì power plant.
