Ansaldo Energia's Irsching 6 gas plant now operating in Germany
The Italian power generation specialist built the open cycle thermoelectric plant for Uniper to provide grid stability in critical situations.

Ansaldo Energia has announced that unit 6 of the Irsching power plant located in Bavaria, Germany, is fully operational.
The Italian power generation specialist built the open cycle thermoelectric plant for client, Uniper.
Irsching 6 was built as a special facility to provide a security power supply in critical situations. This means that the plant will not be available to the market, but will step in at short notice if grid stability is at risk.
The plant is equipped with an AE94.3A gas turbine and related generator for a total power of 300MW.

This is Ansaldo Energia's first plant in Germany and will be followed by the commissioning of a second project, the Marbach open-cycle power plant, also designed to support the strategic network reserve.
According to Uniper, energy has been generated at the Irsching site for more than fifty years.
Five power plant units are located at the site, but units 1 and 2 have been shut down for several years.
Due to the grid situation in southern Germany, unit 3 has been held in reserve by the transmission system operator TenneT TSO GmbH since 2012 to secure the power supply in critical grid situations.
