Ansaldo upgrades critical systems at Slovenia nuclear plant
Ansaldo Nucleare upgraded the water treatment system and waste gas compressor package at the Krško Nuclear power plant.

Ansaldo Nucleare has announced the completion of two modernisation projects at the Krško nuclear power plant in Slovenia.
The upgrades include modernisation of the water treatment system, as well as replacement of the waste gas compressor package.
According to Ansaldo Nucleare, the water treatment system upgrade will enhance operational flexibility and automate the production of demineralised water for reactor feed.
The new configuration includes multiple treatment lines and a modern distributed control system (DCS), enabling improved supervision and largely automated operation. The project was completed in October 2025 and became fully operational in April 2026.
The waste gas compressor package upgrade resulted in the replacement of two waste gas compressors with new units. Due to limited space in the plant, the compressors were transported disassembled and reassembled on site.
Acceptance Tests were completed on schedule and hand over signed in November 2025.

In a statement, the plant's operators said they were making "strong efforts to secure its supply chain to achieve the highest industry standards. Having reliable partners is one of the key success factors.”
Daniela Gentile, Chief Executive Officer of Ansaldo Nucleare, affirmed that the complex upgrade projects will support the plant in maintaining high safety and efficiency standards, as well as promote operational reliability.
Furthermore, Gentile emphasised that Slovenia is a strategic energy partner for Italy. “In 2025, Italy imported around 5TWh of electricity from the country, about 10% of its total electricity imports, highlighting its significant role in Italy’s energy landscape.”
In February 2026, Krško also awarded Ansaldo Nucleare a new contract for the revamping of the plant’s fire protection system, which is scheduled for completion in 2027.
