UK-headquartered power producer ContourGlobal has celebrated the 10th anniversary of its wind power operations, having achieved a total wind capacity of 287MW across ten sites.

Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of ContourGlobal, commented: “We are incredibly proud of our wind heritage that spans far beyond the 10 years of operations, as many of these projects started to be developed many years before. As part of our commitment to a renewable future, ContourGlobal has a gross pipeline of over 2 GW of wind development projects, aligning with our goal of becoming a predominantly renewable Independent Power Producer (IPP) by 2030.”

Achievements in Peru, Austria and Bonaire

In Peru, ContourGlobal started the Talara and Cupisnique wind farms in October 2024, which were the first large-scale wind energy production facilities in the country, they state.

The combined 114MW capacity (31MW at Talara and 83MW at Cupisnique) represents a significant milestone for the company. ContourGlobal’s accumulated generation accounts for 27% of Peru’s historical wind generation (444GWh / year over the last decade) and represented 17% of the country’s total wind production in 2023.

The company is currently advancing plans for repowering and expansion of current plants as well as for co-location of solar in the Talara site. These developments could potentially add close to 250MW of new renewable capacity to the Peruvian grid in the next four to five years.

In Austria, ContourGlobal marked a decade since acquiring seven wind farms in the country, which now operate at a capacity of 162MW after a repowering completed in 2023. This upgrade of four wind farms allowed the company to increase the original 150MW capacity and boost clean energy production from an initial 240GWh/year to 400GWh/year, while the number of wind turbines decreased from 70 to 57.

The repowering of the remaining three plants is already under development. Upon completion, the company expects to raise capacity to 230MW and to more than double the initial annual production of electricity before the end of the decade. The company’s growth strategy in Austria includes a 1GW pipeline, with potential investments reaching one billion euros ($1.04 billion) by 2030.

On the island of Bonaire, ContourGlobal operates an 11MW wind facility integrated into a hybrid generation hub that also includes solar PV, battery storage, and thermal engines. This project has played an important role in decarbonising the grid on the Caribbean island since 2010. The company is also pursuing repowering projects that could allow more than double the existing capacity and help meet the island’s rapidly growing energy needs.
