Energy saving is no longer an option: buildings must manage it!

Posted on: 11 July 2022

Buildings have a vital role to play during their lifecycle, not only when it comes to energy saving but in managing energy to achieve energy efficiency.

According to the International Energy Agency, buildings and building construction sectors are jointly responsible for almost one-third of the total global energy consumption. The current energy crisis that Europe is experiencing is a call to action that cannot be ignored by the industry. Buildings have a vital role to play during their lifecycle, not only when it comes to energy saving but in managing energy to achieve energy efficiency.

Energy saving, imperative for buildings

There has been a shift over the past few years where buildings are no longer only energy consumers, they are now energy producers. With this new role in mind, buildings must manage the energy surplus and decide whether to put the energy in storage or charge the electric vehicles faster.

With electric vehicles on the rise and decentralised energy production becoming more popular, this is becoming even more crucial. Buildings and houses can also play a significant role in helping the grid avoid power outages, by being included in selective load shedding.
