Power plant technology provider Doosan Škoda Power has commissioned a 270MW steam turbine at Metsä Fibre Kemi Bioproduct Mill in Finland.
The commissioning is a joint effort by Doosan Škoda Power and Metsä Fibre, a producer of pulp and paper products from sustainably sourced wood.
The mill will produce 1.5 million tonnes of softwood and hardwood pulp per year, as well as many other bioproducts.
The steam turbine is therefore designed to allow for more efficient power generation and utilisation of resources, ultimately reducing the facility's footprint.

Approximately 2.0TWh of renewable electricity will be produced annually at the Kemi Bioproduct Mill which, according to Doosan Škoda Power equals roughly 2.5% of Finnish total electricity production.
By replacing fossil fuels with renewable bioenergy, the mill will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and will demonstrate a decarbonisation milestone for the pulp production industry at large.
"We are pleased to announce that we have successfully met all contractual milestones and completed the project, overcoming various obstacles and navigating through COVID-19 restrictions. This accomplishment underscores our team's resilience and unwavering dedication to delivering results, even in challenging circumstances,“ said Jindřich Závodný, project manager at Doosan Škoda Power.
The collaboration shows the potential for integrating advanced power plant technology into industrial processes to achieve both climate and economic objectives.
