Today, the Chairman of Iberdrola chairman Ignacio Galán has told Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva that “Iberdrola will be a faithful ally in Brazil’s energy transition”.
And he highlighted the pledge while reiterating Iberdrola’s plans to invest around €5.3 billion in Brazil over the next three years.
Galán and Lula da Silva met to visit Neoenergia Renewable Energy Complex in the Brazilian state of Paraiba, a project intended to supply electricity 1.3 million homes.
Located in the northeast of the country, the complex combines the Chafariz wind farm and the Luzia solar PV plant and has a capacity of 600MW, connected to the grid through a 345-km transmission line.

During the visit, Galán said the hybridisation of wind and solar allows for more efficient management of the two energy sources, cost reduction and better use of both the full generation potential and the transmission system.
"Delivering projects like this requires political leadership capable of defining long-term planning, a clear energy policy and stable and encouraging regulation,” he said.
Brazil’s Neonergia energy company is part of Iberdrola, and Galán said: "After 20 years of presence in Brazil, the Neonergia group today includes more than one hundred companies operating in all segments of the Brazilian electricity industry, serving nearly 40 million people with 16,000 employees. Iberdrola and Neoenergia will continue to be loyal allies of Brazil.”
