Leipzig coal power station turned into hydrogen-ready CHP plant

Thomas Neuenhahn of Siemens Energy talks to Kelvin Ross - Editor Power Engineering International & Editor-in-Chief for Enlit Europe - about the Leipzig cogeneration (CHP) project in collaboration with Stadwerke Leipzig.

The hydrogen-ready CHP plant is currently in the erection phase and is being built on a former coal power plant site. Neuenhahn highlights various aspects of the project, including heat storage, solar thermal, PV on buildings, onsite hydrogen and use of waste heat from electrolysers for district heating - thereby maximising energy efficiency.

Neuenhahn emphasises the importance of being hydrogen-ready and what network infrastructure needs to be developed to ensure project success.
