Poland's Tauron signs agreement to build its largest wind farm

Polish energy company Tauron Zielona Energia has signed an agreement to build the Miejska Górka wind farm project with a target capacity of approximately 190MW.

The project, to be completed in 2027, will meet the energy demand of nearly 200 thousand households.

The Miejska Górka wind farm will be located in the Rawicz district, in the Wielkopolska province of Poland.

The project consists of 53 turbines, each with a rated capacity of 3.6MW and a height of 134m, which makes it Tauron's largest onshore installation investment in the country.

Michał Orłowski, vice-president of Tauron Polska Energia for Asset Management and Development, commented in a statement: "Wind farms are an important element of the decarbonization of the Tauron Group's generation mix. The electricity production profile of wind farms is a good complement to the energy consumption profile of end users, who increasingly produce energy from photovoltaics themselves."

The PLN 2 billion ($500 million) Miejska Górka project is already in the construction readiness phase, and the first works on the farm are to begin in the coming weeks.

According to Artur Kalicki, president of the Management Board of Tauron Zielona Energia, the group is expanding its wind portfolio as part of a strategic shift to increase investment in renewables. "By the end of the year, we plan to launch three farms with a total capacity of over 120MW."

Miejska Górka is Tauron's 17th wind project. Currently, the company operates 11 wind farms with a total capacity of 417MW.

Besides wind, Tauron is also building three PV installations with a total capacity of almost 200MW. One of them – PV Postomino – will share a power connection with the Marszewo wind farm.
