Strathendrick Biogas is developing a 500 kW biomass-fuelled combined heat and power system at Claylands Farm, near Glasgow in the UK.

Strathendrick Biogas is developing a 500 kW biomass-fuelled combined heat and power (CHP) system at Claylands Farm, near Glasgow in the UK.

The anaerobic digestion facility (pictured) uses agricultural by-products and distillery co-products to produce biogas for use in an engine as well as the production of fertiliser and other agricultural products.

It generates some 4200 MWhe and 3200 MWhth annually.

Flexenergy's Flexalen insulated pipe technology carries heat to the drying unit from the engine's heat exchanger.

Robert Kennedy, Director of Strathendrick Biogas Limited, says: 'The biogas plant continues to perform above expectations and the ability to produce dried quality animal bedding further demonstrates the benefit of these systems to dairy farmers. We also believe that this is the first biogas CHP plant in the UK to benefit from the government's Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).'

Dow Waste Management is currently completing the construction of another anaerobic digestion plant in Scotland on behalf of Strathendrick. This plant should be completed and running in the autumn.
