Windar to make transition pieces for Iberdrola's Windanker offshore wind farm
Windar Renovables has signed an agreement with Iberdrola to manufacture 21 transition pieces for the Windanker offshore wind farm.

Windar Renovables has signed an agreement with Iberdrola to manufacture 21 transition pieces for the Windanker offshore wind farm in the German waters of the Baltic Sea.
Transition pieces form part of the wind turbine foundation. They are located between the wind turbine and foundation and help to stabilize and counteract wind and wave loads.
According to Windar Renovables, manufacturing the 21 transition pieces will require more than 450,000 hours of work, with production scheduled to start at the end of 2024.

The production will be carried out at the Avilés facilities and will be shipped to Germany.
Orlando Alonso, Windar Renovables executive president, commented in a statement: "Iberdrola’s new order...confirms our forecasts that we expect a strong activity growth in the sector, for which Windar Renovables is reinforcing its corporate structure and is working to increase its capacities to respond to this challenge and continue to deserve the trust of such important customers".

The 800 million euro ($880 million) Windanker wind farm will have a capacity of 300MW and will include what Iberdrola refers to as "new generation wind turbines" of 15MW each.
The project will be commissioned in 2026, with most of the electricity generated to be traded through long-term power purchase agreements on the German market.
Windar has collaborated with Iberdrola on several projects over a period of nine years. Currently, the company is involved in the manufacture of this type of substructure for other large Iberdrola offshore wind farms, including Germany's Baltic Eagle, (50 pieces), Vineyard Wind I (62 pieces) off the US coast of Massachusetts, and the UK's East Anglia 3 (95 pieces).
