As Russia continues its campaign to weaponise energy, Europe is closing ranks with various regulatory mechanisms designed to reduce gas usage and secure stores for the upcoming winter.

One such mechanism is the Save Gas for a Safe Winter initiative, which aims to reduce gas use across all EU member states by 15%. Will this, together with RePowerEU, be sufficient to mitigate the potential energy security and economic risks associated with a major gas shortage? Or should Europe be preparing for a worst case scenario?

Monika Morawiecka senior advisor for the Regulatory Assistance Project answers these questions and looks at further policy measures needed to boost energy security while ensuring EU Green Deal objectives are realised.
