InterPED

Interped aims to enable the concept of PED via sector linkage, cross-vector integration, demand flexibility and consumer engagement, while improving the use of local sources of renewables, storage and excess/waste heat. Interped will combine renewable energy sources, storage sources and E/WH sources (community assets) available in the pilots with the necessary know-how and ICT expertise to ensure improved PED operation and grid stability. This will enable Interped's end-users (aggregators, service providers, urban planners) to provide benefits to both network operators (DSOs/TSOs) and end-consumers (and prosumers). To do this, Interped will deliver a scalable and adaptable cloud-based platform consisting of analytical, modeling and optimization services for the planning, monitoring and control of integrated PED devices (including electricity, heating and cooling, mobility). Optimized PED operations will be demonstrated at pilot plants, while enabling a collaborative approach to demand flexibility at the local/district level. In addition to automatic control measures, Interped intends to engage consumers via community building (eg CEC or REC), which represents a still largely untapped source of flexibility, while allowing them to play an active role in balancing the grid. By making it cloud-based and by ensuring system interoperability (both syntactic and semantic), Interped will enable associations and actors positioned to adopt proposed business models (e.g. energy companies, energy retailers, distribution system operators) to use Interped- the solution almost anywhere, while reducing the cost of its scalability. The key strategy to ensure that the solutions work well in everyday life for consumers is that Interped will involve the consumers (community) and service providers in the design of the solutions through participatory co-design processes. Interped will check the technical and commercial feasibility of its integrated package in four large-scale pilots, each representing an existing PED.
