Gridspertise CEO highlights digital leapfrog opportunities for European DSOs

For Robert Denda, digitalisation provides “leapfrog” opportunities for late-moving distribution system operators seeking to advance their grid infrastructure technologies.

When speaking on the idea of a pan-European grid, the Gridspertise CEO elaborates on a vision of grid architecture where all EU states are operating on the same level.

While stressing that “context, of course, plays a key role and influences digitalisation deployment in different countries”, he adds that technologies towards digitalisation are the same, whether in terms of the cloud, IT, edge computing or grid control elements.

And it is in adopting these technologies, that DSOs can access what Denda terms “leapfrog opportunities”:

“Some late movers in the field have the advantage to use second and third-generation technologies available today that bring immense advantage, without going through prior, different generations.

"And in the near future, the vision is that all EU states can come to the same level.”
