Digital twin for power plant predictive maintenance
Swedish modelling company Modelon and asset management specialist Iquant Consulting are partnering to deliver a digital twin-based approach for predictive maintenance of energy infrastructure.

Swedish modelling company Modelon and asset management specialist Iquant Consulting are partnering to deliver a digital twin-based approach for predictive maintenance of energy infrastructure.
The aim, with current predictive maintenance solutions generally based on assumptions of component performance, is to introduce a physical modelling approach and thereby improve the accuracy of maintenance timelines and the performance of the asset.
The partnership plans to combine the companies’ respective expertise in asset management and physical system simulation.
Modelon’s technology models physical systems, allowing for the analysis of a real asset, including fluid dynamic behaviour, heat transfer and mechanical dynamics, while Iquant Consulting’s asset health platform processes simulation data to predict failure modes.

Modelon Impact, Modelon’s cloud-based system simulation platform, was used previously in a project with Engie to generate a digital twin for predictive maintenance of a solar power plant to run in the SAP Asset Performance Management cloud.
Iquant Consulting intends to deliver multiple pilot projects using Modelon Impact, in combination with its PRODIGIO predictive maintenance platform.
Companies can expect scoping of their assets, assistance in building physical models for the assets, discovery and forecasting of the most relevant failure modes of the assets and quantifying the effectiveness of maintenance tasks over time to improve asset performance.
