Doosan Škoda Power instals turbine sets at Polish heat and power plant
-

Doosan Škoda Power has announced the installation of two turbine sets as part of a modernisation effort at a heat and power plant in Plock, Poland.
The plant, owned and operated by Polish energy company ORLEN, is being modernised in several phases, with the current phase requiring an investment of €125 million ($146 million).
Doosan Škoda Power is currently modernising units TG4 and TG5 and will be supplying two 55MW back-pressure turbines of the DST-S10 series, a two-pole generator, as well as complete project execution.
Doosan Škoda Power will also supply several types of transformers and a complete set of bus ducts.

Tomáš Winkler, head of project management department at Doosan Škoda Power, commented in a statement: "This investment is being realised as an EPC contract, which means a turnkey delivery of technology – from the design of the turboset through manufacturing, installation and commissioning. The newly supplied turbosets and associated technology will have 9% higher efficiency compared to the original technology, which will significantly contribute to more efficient electricity and heat generation and reduced operating costs as well as environmental step foot."
According to the power plant equipment supplier, this project presented with unique challenges.
The modernisation and reconstruction needed to take place while the other six existing machines, boilers, and technological equipment remained in full operation. Also, the new technology being installed is more complex than the existing units, making installation more complicated.
"The newly supplied units are significantly more complex in terms of layout and redundancy and must be integrated into available existing layout. To ensure maximum precision and minimize risks, we utilised state-of-the-art 3D scanning technology, which formed the basis for detailed design preparation," explained Winkler.
The project scope of delivery includes the complete execution of the civil works, including specific foundation construction using micropiles. Doosan Škoda Power has almost completed the entire civil works phase of the project.
The assembly of unit TG4 is expected to be fully completed by the end of this year, with its handover for operation in October 2026. Unit TG5 is expected to be ready for handover for operation in mid-2029.
