Duke Energy taps GE Vernova for gas turbine partnership
The arrangement between the companies includes a plan to advance specific projects for up to eleven 7HA gas turbines consistent with Duke Energy’s integrated resource plans.

Duke Energy and GE Vernova announced a partnership for natural gas turbines and other associated equipment, which the companies say are needed to meet the growing demands of advanced manufacturing, data centers and population growth.
The arrangement between the companies includes a plan to advance specific projects for up to eleven 7HA gas turbines consistent with Duke Energy’s integrated resource plans. This is in addition to eight recently secured 7HA gas turbines.

GE Vernova recently announced an expansion of its Greenville, S.C. facility to accommodate what the company calls “historic” demand for gas turbines from new and existing customers. The expansion, which is part of a nearly $600 million investment in US manufacturing over the next two years, includes a nearly $300 million investment in its gas power business in the US These investments will replace legacy manufacturing processes with “lean” manufacturing lines, meant to support increases in supplier capacity.
In March, GE Vernova completed the acquisition of Woodward’s heavy duty gas turbine combustion parts business based in Greenville, South Carolina.
The company’s gas power segment grew equipment orders by over 30% in the first quarter of 2025, driven by 7GW of new gas turbine orders. The company also secured an additional 7GW in slot reservation agreements. Its current gas turbine backlog now stands at 29GW, with another 21GW of slot reservations expected to convert into future orders as EPCs and sites are chosen.
The company expect to ship over 10GW of gas turbine equipment and ink contracts for more than twice that amount during the remainder of 2025, GE Vernova executives told investors recently. This would mean ending the year with over 60GW, between backlog and reservation agreements.
