European thermal energy storage solutions firm ENERGYNEST has appointed Alex Robertson as its new chief executive officer to lead the company’s next phase of growth.

The appointment is effective 1 February 2025.

Alex will succeed Dr Christian Thiel, who has led the company for the past decade. Under Thiel's leadership, ENERGYNEST achieved several significant milestones including the piloting of its technology at Masdar, delivering successful projects to Avery Dennison, Eni, and Yara, securing Infracapital‘s €110 million ($114 million) investment, and the company‘s first sale of a turnkey power-to-heat system.

With this leadership transition, ENERGYNEST remains committed to driving industrial decarbonisation and advancing the energy transition through thermal energy storage and holistic renewable heat production for industry.

According to ENERGYNEST, heat and steam production account for nearly 50% of global CO2 emissions in industrial processes, making it a critical area for sustainable innovation. ENERGYNEST’s commitment to innovation and sustainability will continue to drive its growth and amplify its impact on a global scale.

Said Robertson on taking on the new role: “I am honoured to join ENERGYNEST at such an exciting time in its journey. Electrification of industrial heat is taking off, and with the impressive foundation built by Christian and the team, ENERGYNEST is the company ready to make it happen. I look forward to working with our talented employees, partners, and stakeholders to drive the company’s next phase of growth and innovation.”

Dr Christian Thiel, outgoing CEO, ENERGYNEST: “It has been a tremendous privilege to lead ENERGYNEST for the past ten years. Together with our talented team, we have successfully transformed an innovative idea into reality. Our systems address the single biggest global carbon emitter, delivering measurable and impactful CO2 reductions - project by project. I am confident that Alex possesses the vision and leadership qualities necessary to guide ENERGYNEST to new heights in its next chapter."
