ENGIE Poland has finalised the acquisition of two wind farms totaling 103MW from Polish renewable energy developer RP Global and European investor Marguerite.

The final agreement was signed in July 2023 and the transaction was completed following approval from Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.

The wind farms are located in Northern Poland in Tychowo and Kukinia and have been operating for years.

The Tychowo wind farm consists of 20 Nordex N90 turbines and was built in 2009. The Kukinia wind farm has 23 Enercon E-82 turbines and was built in 2013.

As a result of this transaction, ENGIE will own and operate assets with a total capacity of 323MW, including onshore wind farms and solar photovoltaic farms.

Piotr Rogóż, president of the Management Board of ENGIE Zielona Energia commented in a statement: “Thanks to this acquisition, we are developing our assets in Poland in the field of wind projects. The just-signed transaction for the purchase of wind farms complements our portfolio of onshore wind projects by another 103 MW.”

Looking ahead, Poland remains one of RP Global’s core markets, with a pipeline of >2.700 MW of wind and PV projects in different stages of development.

Poland's green ambitions

Poland, traditionally heavily reliant on coal fired power, is working to decarbonise its energy supply through expanding renewable energy, introducing nuclear energy and increasing energy efficiency across the economy.

Nuclear power is starting to gain momentum, with the contracts being signed in September for the country's first nuclear reactor build. Westinghouse Electric Company will deliver an AP1000 Plant, a two-loop pressurised water reactor with a gross power rating of 3,415MWt.

The plant will be situated at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Pomerania.
